Steps to install Security Systems

In this blog post we will show you easy ways to install CCTV camera in your home or business premises.

Step 1.

Determine what kind of surveillance your premises need? (This will allow you to understand the kind of security systems you require.)

• Indoor or Outdoor surveillance.
• Always decide on the quality of surveillance images you want to capture.
• Understand the area you want under surveillance, this will help you determine the range of the security camera.

Step 2.

Kind of Security Cameras.

Decide on the kind of security camera you want, CCTV or IP camera.

CCTV Camera

Closed Circuit Television as the name says are analogue cameras which use a closed signal to transmit surveillance video feeds.

These kinds of cameras are commonly observed and frequently used in banks, airports, restaurants, ATM centres, schools, residential and corporate complexes and many such places.

CCTV cameras require Digital Video Recording (DVR) systems for the purpose of recording surveillance feeds captured from the cameras.

There are different kinds of CCTV camera available in the market, below are a few to enlighten you:

• Dome Camera (with and without IR features)
• Outdoor IR camera
• Box Camera
• Speed Dome Camera (with and without IR features)
• Hidden Camera
• Please note there are security cameras with PTZ i.e. pan, tilt and zoom features, Laser Infrared features for advance surveillance activities.

IP Camera

IP camera popularly known as network and internet protocol camera is capable of streaming live surveillance videos via digital packets across an internet protocol network such as a LAN (Local Area Network) or the Internet.

One of the major benefits of an IP camera is that they reside on IP networks; all your security and surveillance footage captured can be accessed and stored remotely.

Users can simply view all their security and surveillance footage using a standard web browser or with a video management software from different locations

Step 3

Decide on the number of CCTV camera.

An area survey or audit will help you determine the number and kind of security cameras. The area audit will further allow you to understand the camera distance capture range therefore arrive at a final figure.

Step 4

Selecting a DVR system.

• Once you have decided the number and kind of security cameras. You need to purchase a DVR system.
• 4chnl DVR supports 4 CCTV Cameras, 8chnl DVR supports 8 CCTV cameras, and 16chnl DVR supports 16 CCTV cameras and so on.
• In case you wish to view all your surveillance feeds in live mode you can choose a network DVR system.
• In this case you can access your security surveillance footage from a laptop, computer or even a mobile phone (I-phones, Blackberry's etc.)

Step 5

Selecting Cables.

• Once your security systems purchase is completed, for installation there are three most commonly used coaxial cable types for video applications:

1. oRG59/U which can transmit signals up to 200 metres. These distances are for a single run of cable with no amplifiers or in-line correctors.
2. oRG6/U can transmit a video signal up to 400 metres with a single run of cable.
3. oRG11/U can transmit up to 270 metres for a single run of cable.

Step 6

Fitting.

You can use an electrician to have these security cameras fitted on the pre-decided spots and connect them to the DVR system and start viewing all security surveillance videos

Step 7

Placement of DVR system.

• Fix a location/ spot in your premises to place the DVR systems.
• It is advisable to keep your DVR system in a place not accessible to visitors.
• For example in case of home security you can place the DVR system in your bedroom,

study or a safe.

• In case of offices the DVR system is safest in the bosses’ cabin or the security guard control office.

Step 8

Fitting the DVR system.

Now bring all the coax cable i.e. RG59/U or RG6/U or RG11/U which ever you have selected from the security cameras to this area and connect them to the DVR system.

Step 9

Power Supply.

• You can either connect the power supply line from each camera separately into an outlet (using pig tails) and an AC Adapter.
• Or you can get an AC/DC power supply box, plug all the camera power lines into the box, and then connect one AC power line from the outlet to the box.

Step 10

Monitoring Stations.

You need to set up a monitoring station.

Select the number of monitors on which you wish to view your multiple security cameras.
